Mateo Rosiles is the Texas Connect Reporter for the USA TODAY Network, covering Texas at the state and national level for the network's regional papers across the state. Based in Austin, he provides timely, audience-focused reporting on new laws, political impacts, the border and immigration, weather, emerging digital trends, and the stories Texans need to know.

Before stepping into this role, Mateo was a government and public policy reporter and photojournalist for the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, where he led local coverage of city, county, and state governments, multiple school boards, and the Texas Tech University System Board of Regents. He also closely tracked the actions of state and federal lawmakers representing the region.

Earlier at the Avalanche-Journal, Mateo served as the paper's breaking news and special projects reporter, specializing in in-depth coverage of rural healthcare, agriculture, higher education, and investigative reporting. He helped modernize the paper's digital storytelling through multimedia initiatives, including podcast production and a revitalized visual identity on social media, and spearheaded the newspaper's special section on the Texas Tech Centennial Celebration.

Mateo began his career at The Daily Toreador, Texas Tech University's student newspaper, where he worked his way up to Editor-in-Chief in less than two years, leading a newsroom of student journalists and serving as a liaison between student media and university administration.

Passionate about impactful journalism and newsroom leadership, Mateo blends deep reporting experience with a keen eye for visual storytelling.
